FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Some of the most asked question, answered

01 Does it work for real/neurological migraines — not just tension headaches?

Migraines are a neurological condition and we do not claim otherwise. What Calmare targets is the physical experience of an attack — the trigeminal nerve pathways, vascular pressure, and muscle tension that make a migraine unbearable. It does not stop the neurological process. It meaningfully reduces how much it hurts while it passes. That distinction matters, and we stand behind it.

02 Can the heat be turned off? Does it work with cold?

Yes, heat is completely optional — turn it off and use compression only. Many users prefer this during intense attacks when the head feels hot and sensitive.

On cooling: building active cold therapy directly into a wearable device is an engineering problem with no elegant solution. True cooling requires the same technology as a refrigerator or air conditioning unit — compressors, refrigerants, and significant power.

The result would be a device that is bulky, loud, and tethered to a power source. For a migraine sufferer who cannot tolerate sound or pressure, that is the opposite of what helps.

Instead, we offer Calmare Ice Plus — a cooling gel mask that freezes in 1 to 2 hours and sits underneath Calmare One.

You get cold compression therapy without the noise, the bulk, or the engineering compromise. If you add Calmare One to your cart, you will see the option to add Calmare Ice Plus at a discount before checkout.

03 How loud is it? I am very sensitive to sound during a migraine.

Calmare operates quietly. The airbags inflate and deflate with a soft, low rhythm — not a mechanical buzz or vibration. Sound-sensitive users specifically mention this as one of the reasons they can tolerate it during an active attack when other devices were too disruptive.

04 What types of migraines and headaches does it help with?

Calmare works well for migraines with and without aura, tension headaches, hormonal migraines, stress headaches, eye strain headaches, sinus headaches, postdrome headaches, cervicogenic headaches, and menopausal headaches. For vestibular migraines, cluster headaches, and hemiplegic migraines, results vary more — which is exactly why the 100-day guarantee exists.

05 Is it safe to use with my medical condition?

Calmare is non-invasive and drug-free — no electrical current, no magnets, no chemicals. However, if you have a VP shunt, brain aneurysm, have undergone DBS surgery, have a cranial neurostimulator, have recently had eye surgery including cataract or glaucoma surgery, or are pregnant, please consult your doctor before use. Your safety comes first.

06 How does the 100-day guarantee work? Is return shipping free?

If Calmare does not deliver the relief you need within 100 days of purchase, contact us at info@calmare.com with your order number. Returns are completely free. You will receive a full refund with no deductions. The guarantee expires 7 days after the 100-day window closes.

07 How is Calmare different from other head massagers and devices on the market?

Most devices on the market either vibrate or use cheap mechanical rollers that press into your head with fixed, uncontrolled force.

Vibration during a migraine is often the last thing a sufferer can tolerate. Mechanical rollers apply blunt pressure without any ability to adjust to the shape of your head.

Calmare uses airbags. Six of them, positioned precisely over the trigeminal, supraorbital, temporal, and occipital nerve pathways. Airbags inflate and deflate with smooth, rhythmic pressure that conforms to your head — not against it.

The pressure is controlled, consistent, and adjustable. That is not a design detail. It is the reason the relief feels different from anything else you have tried.

No other consumer device targets all four migraine nerve pathways simultaneously with airbag compression and optional heat in one wearable system.

08 Does it work for tension headaches and sinus headaches too?

Yes. Tension headaches are caused directly by muscle tightness in the forehead and temples — exactly where Calmare's compression zones sit. For sinus headaches, the combination of compression and heat helps relieve the pressure that builds across the forehead and above the eyes. Many users find it most immediately effective for tension-type pain.

09 I have tried other devices before and wasted money. Why is this different?

Most devices apply generic pressure or vibration without any anatomical targeting. Calmare was designed around the nerve map — six airbags positioned precisely over the trigeminal, supraorbital, temporal, and occipital pathways where migraine pain originates. It is also the only consumer device that combines airbag compression with optional heat in one wearable system. And if it does not work for you, the 100-day free return means you lose nothing

10 Why doesn't Calmare One include a cooling function?

Integrating a cooling system directly into Calmare One would make it bulky, noisy, and require much more power — which is especially uncomfortable during migraines, when sensitivity to sound and pressure is higher. To keep Calmare One lightweight, quiet, and easy to wear, the cooling feature is offered separately through Calmare Ice Plus as an optional add-on.

11 Will it work during a very intense migraine or only mild ones?

It works during both — but the experience is different. During a mild to moderate attack, most users feel relief within the first 10 minutes. During a very intense attack, the device helps reduce the surrounding pressure and sensitivity, making the peak more manageable. Start on the lowest compression setting and no heat during severe attacks.

12 I cannot tolerate anything touching my head during an attack. How do I know if I can wear this?

This is a real concern and we take it seriously. Calmare uses soft airbags that inflate gradually — not rigid pressure that presses hard against your skull. Many users who cannot tolerate headbands or tight clothing during an attack find Calmare's gentle, graduated compression tolerable. The 100-day trial exists precisely for this reason — try it during a real attack and return it free if it does not work for you.
